About Us

The Metzgers are spinners of dreams and makers of memories.

The brother and sister goldsmithing duo are the only local jewellers to pour the metal and cast their own work. From the initial idea and sketches Michael Metzger and his sister, Beverly Metzger-Noble bring vision to reality. Then - their favourite part - watching the delighted expressions that follow.

Metzger's Fine Jewellery specializes in custom design. Michael and Beverly create everything from engagement rings and wedding sets to modernizing sentimental family pieces for the younger generation. They use only the highest quality materials, karat gold, precious jewels, unique stones and Canadian diamonds.

A Metzger piece is somewhere between cutting edge and classic. Innovative yet timeless. Each has their own unique style yet Michael and Beverly often coordinate talents. Whatever they create - rings, pendents, necklaces, earrings, bracelets or broaches - it is truly one of a kind.

Michael and Beverly garnered an extensive and loyal following at arts and crafts shows throughout Ontario prior to opening their own storefront in the heart of downtown Barrie, overlooking Kempenfelt Bay, in 2001. After acquiring extensive experience separately the next natural step was to join forces and open a retail store together.

The majority of the 900-square-foot space is devoted to glittering showroom with a sophisticated backdrop of rich burgundy and gold. No clocks, figurines or china here - it's dedicated to jewellery only. Past the glass cases filled with original designs, towards the back of the store, there is a separate 300-square-foot studio workshop where all of the work takes place.

Four years apart in age, Michael and Beverly both won scholarships while attending the three-year Jewellery Arts program at George Brown College in Toronto. Following graduation Beverly worked for jewellery manufacturers in Toronto prior to opening her own private studio where she enjoyed 15 successful years in the downtown jewellery district. Meanwhile Michael stayed independent, initially in a studio collective with other artists prior to opening a private studio in Barrie. Both gained recognition: Michael won the De Beer's Diamond for Men's Award and one of Beverly's broach designs travelled abroad with the Ontario Crafts Council Crafts of the World Show.

Today, over 20 years later, Metzgers' custom designs in platinum, gold and sterling silver can be found in collections across Canada and the United States.
